Gallery Staff

Ron and Sheila Allner are the owners of The Studio and the ScottishArt web site. They work hard to give access to some of the wonderfully rich arts and crafts of Scotland to the Breadalbane area and overseas.

The gallery has been open since the 25th of August 2007 and have already been very fortunate to obtain a good selection of the work from the fabulous Jonathan Shearer, Danny Campbell, Morag Duff, John Neville, and Ian Shanlin, all original works.

So who are the artists?

Sandra Waddell was born and has lived in Glasgow for most of her life but also spends time at their cottage in Glen Lochay. The ever changing mountainous landscape, lochs and attractive villages has given her the desire and inspiration to create and capture their beauty and colour on canvas. Over the years Sandra has attended art classes at Glasgow University and School of Art to help her achieve the challenge of successful oil painting in the Scottish Landscape.

Ian Shanlin was born in Turso, Caithness and at present lives in the West End of Glasgow. Since the early 90's his work has been in galleries in mid Scotland and he is grateful to the Tighnabruaich Gallery and Valentine Moon Gallery, Rait for the interest shown in his early work and the confidence gained through their One Man Shows. These have helped mould his current paintings.

At present the Woodland Gallery in Falkland, Fife have a permanent display of his work while in the west side of the country the Mansfield Gallery in Arrochar have supported his efforts. His paintings have been included in the Pitlochry Theatre Art Show for the past four years. During the show he takes great pleasure in inviting his customers old and new to visit. This has led to customers from America, New Zealand and the Far East corresponding on a regular basis.

Susan Forsyth. I have always lived by the sea and am fascinated by the constantly changing light and the movement of the tides. At present, my work focuses on the water and skies at Kingsbarns beach, trying to capture the many unique moods and atmosphere of the area. To achieve this I work out of doors, directly before my subject. I work in oils, mainly using a palette knife for the richly textured qualities of impasto that can be achieved, as well as the essential element of speed. The big skies and strong horizon lines of Fife provide inspiration in all weather conditions.

Anthony Taylor studied fine art at the Cleveland College of Art and Design. He spends approximately six months of the year in and around St. Fillans. The remainder of the year he spends travelling far and wide, constantly seeking out new images to paint. Watercolour painting, the most difficult of mediums to use is his first love. Economy of brush strokes placed with a sensitivity of touch to preserve the transparent qualities of watercolours is his constant quest. By comparison all of his oil paintings are created with the vigorous application of oils with the sole use of a pallet knife.

Anthony has held five solo exhibitions in the northeast of England and one in Perth. He has exhibited in numerous open exhibitions. Examples of his works are held in private collections in Australia, America, Italy, France and Spain.

Kevin Flemming. As an artist, I am primarily self taught, though have admired coulourism (Peploe, Cursiter etc.) and expressionism (Chagall) since very young. I have been developing my style for many years now, concentrating on rich, deep attractive colours which evoke mood and atmosphere and attempt to express the personal language of feeling, sensation and imagination. Having spent my early years in the Far East, I was keen to rediscover the landscape and subjects of Scotland and to return to a more expressive form.

I moved to Perthshire in 2004, at the age of 33 and ever since have been fascinated with the highland landscape. More recently the coastal and island landscapes which I have concentrated on since 2008, catching the moon over harbours, fishing villages and the qualities of light and colour at different times and seasons, rendering the very specifically Scottish mood and character.

Alex Summers spent his early childhood in the Shetland Isles. When his family moved to the mainland he was sent to various schools where he showed a great deal of interest in drawing and painting. In 1969 he won the Brooke Bond Award for young artists and in 1970 passed the Press Art Schools course on pencil and charcoal drawing. Apart from a brief period at art College he considers himself self-taught. In 1980 he had a one-man show of semi surreal work called "Perfect Imperfection". Since then he has continued to paint, developing an interest in Scottish Landscape, and now has works in many private and public collections.
